| Tile Countertops Are Passé; Stone Countertops Add More Life: The refashioning of the Mead kitchen. | |||||
Earlier this year, the Meads of Palo Alto, CA decided to remodel their 19-year-old kitchen with new countertops and appliances. It was time to get rid of the tile countertops, and replace them with a solid surface. Using the existing 1987 Omega pecan cabinets, and the original terracotta tile floor the Meads wanted to continue the warm and comfortable feeling in their kitchen. After shopping at five different granite importers, and photographing over 50 variations of granite, the Mead family decided on using the Juparana Siena Bordeaux. The Juparana Siena Bordeaux was a stone the Meads felt happy looking at. The color hues are warm, rich and inviting. The mica in the stone added a lot of sparkle and depth. They absolutely had to have it because they enjoyed the pleasing colors, and strong movement in the Juparana Siena Bordeaux (granite, Brazil). The Meads worked with the fabricators at Marble City in San Carlos, CA to assist them with the fabrication and installation of their project. The refashioning of their kitchen was so dramatic that it was like a whole new environment for the Mead family. Their friends, family, and neighbors liked the personality of the Juparana Siena Bordeaux, which brought much more life to the Mead’s kitchen. |

| Out With The Old & In With The New: The Nishimoto family shares their story of their re-model addition. | |||||
Just over a year ago, Mr. & Mrs. Nishimoto decided it was time to make a move and remodel their outdated kitchen. The Nishimoto family decided it was time to get rid of the tile countertops, outdated appliances, and add a breakfast nook by extending their floor plan into their back yard. In doing so, they were able to add a second island to their floor plan, which accommodates six to eight people, and they created a new custom kitchen equipped with new stainless steel appliances and the new additions of steamer and pot filler. Everything in their kitchen was gutted and replaced. Their brand new cherry cabinets are crafted by Custom Craft Cabinets (www.customcraftcabinets.com). Appliances were purchased at Atherton Appliance, and Lakes Appliances. John, partner of Custom Craft Cabinets, assisted the Nishimoto family with maximizing the most of their new space to create a better flow to their new functional kitchen. Once their kitchen design was completed, the Nishimoto family consulted with Bert, owner of Vertex Marble & Granite, to assist them with choosing a stone that would fit their project. Mr. & Mrs. Nishimoto took their time looking for their stone. |
